Volunteer

Take part. Then help make it happen for someone else.

Volunteers help Forge 54 deliver events well. They also help protect the culture: welcoming people, noticing who is on the edge, doing the practical jobs and making the day feel organised, safe and generous.

What volunteers may do

Practical help that makes the day work.

  • Help prepare the site, equipment and ingredients.
  • Welcome participants and help people find their feet.
  • Support cooking, serving, clearing and practical event tasks within their competence.
  • Look out for safety, dignity and the people around them.
  • Help finish the day well and support appropriate follow-up.
  • Take on greater responsibility as trust, skill and experience grow.

Character comes before technical skill.

We can teach someone how to manage a smoker. It is much harder to teach someone how to make another person feel safe, valued and included.

Integrity

Keep your word and behave consistently.

Service

Be willing to do the unglamorous jobs.

Reliability

Turn up, prepare and follow through.

Humility

Know what you know and be able to ask for help.

Encouragement

Enjoy seeing other people grow.

Responsibility

Take safety, people, resources and trust seriously.

Leadership principle

We don’t look for people who want a position. We look for people who want responsibility.
